AKVIS Refocus is a utility aimed at processing digital images, its main purpose being that of improving the level of sharpness of pictures that are out of focus. It comes both as a standalone utility and as a plugin for photo editors such as Adobe Photoshop CS and Photoshop Elements.
The utility was designed considering that pictures will not always be taken with the subject well placed in focus, which leads to processing being necessary. In addition, some will prefer to add special effects to their pictures such as to draw attention to a detail by increasing its sharpness while blurring its background. The program allows for such special effects to be created. In order to obtain the selective focus effect, used by photographers, the utility offers two pencils for selecting either a focus area to be worked on or the background area to be blurred. The editing menu of the standalone utility has four categories: focus (manual focusing, sensitivity, intensify), blending (darken, lighten), defocus (blur - this option is only active for Deluxe and Business licenses), presets. Actions such as modifying the sensitivity and darkening or lightening parameters are aimed at fine-tuning, influencing the contrast boost, which apparently underlies the rescuing of out-of-focus images. The utility is nice and easy to use, however, the offered results are not impressive.
AKVIS Refocus is a utility that can, to a limited extent, "rescue" pictures that are out of focus or which can help in drawing attention to certain image elements by modifying the sharpness or the blur effect on different areas.
